Creating value from materials, starting with data
On the path towards a truly circular economy, understanding materials is the first essential step. Through testing and characterisation activities, RES develops Research and Development projects dedicated to the recovery of plastic materials, analysing their chemical-physical, thermal and mechanical properties.
This approach enables us to support local and international companies in designing more sustainable solutions, reducing the ecological footprint of products and encouraging the adoption of responsible and innovative production models. In order to effectively recover and reuse materials, it is essential to identify the polymer that constitutes the sample and to detect the possible presence of additives or fillers, thereby acquiring the most comprehensive information on the chemical nature and composition of plastic products.
Below are the main analyses carried out in our laboratories.
Type of analysis: Chemical-physical-thermal characterization
This technique is used to identify the chemical nature of materials. Through spectrogram analysis, it is possible to obtain detailed information on new compounds or polymer blends.

Type of analysis: Chemical-physical-thermal characterisation
This technique supports FT/IR analysis in identifying the polymer under examination, providing a thermal profile of the analysed sample and information on the crystallinity of the plastic material.

Type of analysis: Chemical-physical-thermal characterisation
This analysis allows the determination of the density of the polymer or compound, providing additional confirmation for the identification and characterisation of the sample under examination.
Type of analysis: Chemical-physical-thermal characterisation
This analysis allows the determination of the moisture content of polymers, a key physical parameter as it influences the processing of polymer granules in prototyping machines and the quality of semi-finished or finished products.
Type of analysis: Rheological characterisation
The determination of the melt flow index provides essential basic and specific information for optimising polymer processing or the production of new compounds or polymer blends.
Analysis type: Mechanical characterization
This destructive test allows the evaluation of the main mechanical properties reported in technical data sheets using standard specimens, while recording the stress–strain curve during analysis. It also provides information on the polymer matrix and enables comparison with filled or additivated matrices.
